Give Back on GivingTuesday

Black Friday

Cyber Monday

#GivingTuesday

It's hard to resist a good deal right after Thanksgiving, and there are plenty of deals to be found on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If the retail frenzy has left you feeling about as gluttonous as that extra piece of pie after Thanksgiving dinner (we'll even admit to having pie for breakfast the next morning, too), Giving Tuesday may be your perfect cure. Tuesday is the day to feel good about doing a good dead and focus on bigger causes this Holiday season.

What is Giving Tuesday? It's a global event that's all about giving back. It's a day to donate time, money or talent to the causes that you care about most, during a time when many people and organizations can really use it.

What do you need to do? Start by considering the causes that really matter to you!

Are you interested in making sure nobody in your community goes hungry? Food shelters are always looking for donations - you can even clean out your pantry and bring non-perishable items that you could do without. You can also serve meals at Kitchens near you. The Greater Chicago Food Depository is a great source for finding places to donate food and a quick Google search will locate Kitchens in your area.

Or, do you spend your breaks watching cute pandas or looking at pictures of exotic landscapes? There are many environmental groups that are dedicated to preserving wildlife and the ecosystems around the world. Many of the zoos and gardens in the city and suburbs also have ways you can donate money or time to help make an impact locally and globally.

How about improving resources or expanding rights for different groups of people? Especially during this Presidential-election year, you've probably given some thought to how current and potential legislation may impact people you care about. Advocacy groups for just about any cause exist to offer your time or donations, or you can start your own!

What is FFCU doing? This year, we are proud to have partnered with a number of organizations in our community. Here are a few highlights that we encourage you to check out:

Operation North Pole: Spreading the spirit of the Holidays to children in need.

ONP works with Chicago’s major children’s hospitals, providing a day of fun and fantasy for families who have a child battling a life threatening illness by hosting a fantasy trip to the North Pole. The magical experience includes breakfast, a festive train ride to the North Pole, a visit with Santa, winter wonderland fun, entertainment, treats, personal wish list gifts, and much more! It's ONP's goal to provide these families an unforgettable experience amidst very challenging times.

FFCU is sponsoring the 2016 breakfast and our staff will be helping out with wrapping gifts and setting up the event!

Resources for Community Living:
Provides opportunities for adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities.

RCL offers a variety of services which enables greater community living for our clients, giving them the opportunity to be independent and maintain a more fulfilling life. Some of RCL's services include individual support, housing solutions, job assistance and social opportunities for their clients and their families.

FFCU was a sponsor for the 2016 RCL Gala. You can now make a donation to RCL using your BuzzPoints! Just go to the Charities section in Rewards.

SitStayRead:
Improving literacy skills and fostering a love of learning in children living in low-income neighborhoods.

SitStayRead brings teams of trained volunteers and Certified Reading Assistance Dogs into 16 Chicago Public Schools in some of Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods. SitStayRead is the leading literacy organization in the United States to use dogs as a tool to improve reading in grades one through four. Dogs enable SitStayRead to tackle the serious issue of childhood illiteracy in a fun way, and test scores prove that the programs improve reading fluency.

FFCU membership is now available to all donors of SitStayRead and our staff are becoming involved in the classrooms. You can now make a donation to SitStayRead using your BuzzPoints!! Just go to the Charities section in Rewards.

Remember, all you need to do is donate your time, resources or money to make a difference this #GivingTuesday!
